My name is Kami Shallenberger and I'm so glad you stopped by. I'm a stay-at-home mama to my son, Oliver, and work as a freelance writer, textile and graphic designer, as well as produce and style weddings and events in San Francisco, CA, where I live with my husband.
I grew up in a small town on the central coast of California named Cambria Pines-by-the-Sea, which is exactly what it sounds like. Having spent my youth traversing between the glistening ocean and the misty Big Sur mountains, nature has always been vital to my physical and emotional world.
My textile line, KAMMA TEXTILES, is inspired by this closeness with nature, as I prefer to work with natural textiles and plant based dyes. I'm currently working on a line of accessories, home goods, and a children's collection that will all be available in my online shop soon. The name Kamma is both my and my Gramma's name, who I am named after. She was a strong and independent woman who immigrated from Copenhagen, Denmark to the U.S. as a child, moved out to California on her own as a teenager to become a nurse, and lived to the golden age of 104 in her own home by the beach in Santa Cruz. Kamma also means "love" in Danish, which is really what life is all about, right?!
I also have a minor in writing/editing from UC Santa Barbara and still enjoy writing as a creative outlet. I currently contribute articles that focus on life as a new mom for the influential website Mother Mag.
Recently, I've put my professional background in advertising, where I worked as a Producer and Art Buyer at Heat for six years (my production portfolio can be viewed here), to good use as a freelance event and wedding planner/visual stylist with the amazing event company Bash Please. I also create and design wedding textiles, invitations, save the dates, and signage/posters for like-minded clients.
